To date, the company has created 34 original works. Six of its productions—Solo, Horn, and Play: Ji Yueqie, Evil Tiger Youth Z, The Demon Subduer: Qitian, The Dinner on the Eve of Lunar New Year’s Day, The Affectionate Swordsman, the Ruthless Sword, and The Disappeared Sixth Cohort—have been nominated for the Taishin Arts Award. The company was also shortlisted for the “Best Independent Spirit Award” at the inaugural Taipei Theatre Awards. “Our wish is to pass on the good stories we have heard and tell them to the next generation.”

Hero’s Rhapsody Clang, Clang, Shamisen
The shamisen traces its roots to the traditional Chinese three-stringed instrument, the sanxian. After traveling east to Japan, it evolved into distinct regional styles such as the Okinawan sanshin and the Tsugaru shamisen. Meanwhile, Peking Opera was introduced to Taiwan, where its refined movements, techniques, and countless classical literary stories have become an indispensable treasure of Taiwanese operatic performance.
“Clang Clang Shamisen” brings these two traditions together in a unique collaboration. PoYouTroupe, renowned for its Peking Opera expertise, joins hands with outstanding Taiwanese shamisen musicians to create a cross-cultural performance. By combining traditional Peking Opera repertoire and rhythmic musical structures with technically demanding shamisen pieces, the production vividly presents the excitement of classic martial “excerpt plays” (zhezi xi). This innovative performance offers audiences a refreshing way to experience the sound of the shamisen while discovering a distinctive Taiwanese interpretation of contemporary Peking Opera.
